Health & Wellness Tips for the day -
Go for a walk -
Enjoy a relaxation activity 15 mins every day -
Meditation is a skill that can be incorporated into any situation including; Having coffee, Walking, Sitting on the sofa, eating meals -
Activities proven to reduce stress include Meditation, Classical music, Tai Chi & Yoga, Deep breathing, Progressive relaxation technique, Autogenic relaxation, Hypnosis -
Useful stress controlling habits -
Regular strength (between 30 – 60 minutes) and/or - Aerobic training (20 – 30 mins at 70% VO2 max)
- Breaks every 90 – 120 mins
- Fun, laughter and realistic optimism
- Regulation of stimulants – coffee, diuretics, amphetamines
- Reading a book
- Dancing
- Playing with children
- Meaningful sex
Living Well and Eating Well -
80 - 20 - Eat whole (natural) foods for 4 out of 5 meals. This means eating 'the plate' or ‘the chopping board’ at main meals (see below). -
It is good to ‘refuel’ your body at least every 2.5 - 4 hours. If you find yourself getting hungry between meal times, you might want to add an extra healthy snack in, or consider whether you are eating the right balance of food at meal times. -
Multi-colored variety is the spice of life. Eat lots of different colored fruits & vege’s each day (it’s a great way antioxidants) -
Eat fresh fish at least once a week. Eat 2 servings of fiber per day. -
If you eat more slowly, you will become full sooner and will not eat as much -
Enjoy unsaturated oils such as: Vegetable oils, nuts, avocado, fish -
Make healthy eating convenient, keep healthy snacks close at hand. Keep junk food snacks out of sight, out of the office and out of the house! -
Take the guilt out of eating. There is no 'bad food'. You can eat foods for fuel or for your taste buds. -
Give yourself a taste bud treat every day if you wish ie Freddo Frog, Lindt ball, & feel free to enjoy 1 glass of wine or Guinness regularly -
If you are attempting to improve your diet, remember that in every learning situation you will make mistakes and have setbacks. Be kind to yourself and stay positive -
Eat plenty of grains and cereals (breads, muesli, porridge, rice, pasta, noodles) -
Include lean meats, fish, poultry and/or alternatives -
Include healthy oils – avocado, nuts, seeds, olive oil, fish oil, omega 3,6 & 9 -
Include milks, yoghurts, cheeses and/or alternatives -
Choose reduced fat varieties should be chosen where possible -
Drink plenty of water -
Boil, bake and grill food. |
